It’s wild to me how a name becomes an identity and vice versa. Consider the name your parents almost named you. I was almost Rayna, which is absolutely awful to imagine. I love my name. It feels powerful and unique, traits that I value in myself and the people I love.
But also maybe sometimes a name is just silly. Especially the name of a blog/website like this. So, why…
Hot dogs? – They are funny! Ever since I was a teen I’ve drawn a silly hot dog because it is totally goofy and makes me laugh. Somehow the silliness of hot dogs has really spiraled and now I have a small collection of assorted hot dogs that I keep in my office. For me the humble hot dog is a reminder not to take things too seriously and that it’s okay to be goofy.
High fives? – They are joy! A high five represent happiness and celebration. It is damn near impossible to be upset while high fiving, and I love that a high five cannot be done alone. It is a shared moment of joy and excitement between humans. Human connection and happiness are important to me. I know we don’t always feel connected and happy, but when we have that it should be cherished, much like the humble high five. (Seriously, take a sec to read the Wiki on high fives).
The name came to me in part because I love a good alliteration, but also because I wanted a name that represented me. Being that this is a personal experiment, it should be a reflection of what I value and plan to explore. Based on the name, you can expect silliness, randomness and happiness from Hot Dogs and High Fives.
High five,
